Udupi: A disturbing incident has come to light after Malpe police initiated an investigation when the lifeless body of a newborn was found in a toilet near Malpe Junction on Monday.

According to sources, the infant’s mother, a single, unmarried woman, has been identified during the preliminary probe.

The manager of Jamia Masjid, located close to Malpe Junction, filed a complaint stating that the mosque has a two-storey structure with a toilet facility built nearby for use by construction workers.

On April 14, at around 1:10 pm, the complainant stepped into the toilet and was shocked to discover a newborn baby lying inside. Blood stains were visible on the inner walls, raising serious suspicions about the circumstances of the birth and disposal.

It is suspected that the infant may have been stillborn, died during delivery, or passed away shortly after. The baby’s body appears to have been abandoned in secrecy, likely as an effort to hide the birth.

Following the discovery, the Malpe police registered a case under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and have launched a full-scale investigation into the matter.

Further details regarding the woman’s identity and her statement are awaited as part of the ongoing inquiry.
