Udupi– The three-day Niranthar Film Festival, held as part of the eighth anniversary celebrations of Niranthar Udyavara, concluded successfully after showcasing three acclaimed Kannada films carrying strong social messages.

At the valedictory, chief guest Fr Charles Menezes, parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, praised Niranthar for using socially committed films to create public awareness. He noted that while such films attract smaller audiences, those present are often more open to their messages.

Daijiworld founder and actor Walter Nandalike, also speaking at the event, expressed concern over the global rise in mental depression across all age groups, with many resorting to suicide. He stressed that while commercial cinema invests heavily in entertainment, socially conscious films can inspire positive change in both individuals and society.

On the second day, social activist Muneer Katipalla and journalist Naveen Soorinje attended as chief guests. The event also honoured doctorate awardee Dr Joyline Noronha and filmmakers Mansore and Utsav for their socially driven contributions.

President Roshan Crasta welcomed guests, secretary Oliveira Mathias delivered the vote of thanks, and founding president Steven Colaco compered.

Screenings included Mansore’s ACT 1978 and 19.20.21, along with Photo, a short film by Utsav Gonawar.
