Udupi: A tragic road accident on Thursday morning at Adve Kanajar Katte, along the Padubidri-Karkala State Highway, claimed the life of a passenger and left two others, including the auto-rickshaw driver, critically injured.
The mishap occurred when a private express bus traveling from Mangaluru to Karkala rammed into an auto-rickshaw. The impact of the collision was so severe that the auto-rickshaw was completely crushed.
One of the passengers in the rickshaw succumbed to injuries on the spot. The identity of the deceased is yet to be confirmed. The injured auto-rickshaw driver has been identified as Hamza, a resident of Kanchinadka. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment.
Local police from the Padubidri station arrived at the accident site and conducted a spot inspection. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the collision.
Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously, especially on highways where visibility and speed often contribute to fatal incidents.
