Udupi: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan visited the historic Udupi Sri Krishna Matha on Sunday, offering prayers and participating in the spiritually enriching Bruhat Geetotsava organised by Paryaya Sri Puthige Sri Krishna Matha. The actor-turned-politician, known for his deep interest in Indic philosophy and spiritual traditions, called the experience profoundly humbling.
A spiritual visit to the land of Sri Krishna
In a social media post following his visit, Mr. Pawan Kalyan expressed reverence for Udupi, describing it as the “sacred land and spiritual powerhouse of Bharat”. He highlighted the city’s timeless connection with Lord Sri Krishna, the presence of Mukhya Prana Hanuman as the divine guardian, and the enduring influence of Jagadguru Sri Madhvacharya, whose teachings continue to shape generations of devotees and scholars.
Mr. Kalyan said that being at Udupi felt like standing in the heart of India’s spiritual heritage, a place where devotion, scholarship, and cultural traditions converge.
Participation in Bruhat Geetotsava
The Bruhat Geetotsava, a major devotional event celebrating the message of the Bhagavad Gita, saw participation from thousands of devotees. As part of the programme, attendees collectively recited verses from the Gita, symbolising unity, spiritual discipline, and devotion.
Mr. Pawan Kalyan joined devotees in the mass recitation and called the Bhagavad Gita the “very soul of Indian civilisation”, emphasising its message of duty, righteousness, and inner strength.
He remarked that the teachings of the Gita not only illuminate individual lives but also serve as a moral compass for society at large.
Commendation for spiritual initiatives in Udupi
During his visit, the Deputy Chief Minister also praised the initiatives led by Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji, the Paryaya Swamiji of Puthige Matha. He highlighted two major spiritual movements currently underway in Udupi:
- One crore handwritten Bhagavad Gita project, an ambitious initiative encouraging devotees across the world to handwrite verses from the scripture.
- Laksha Kanta Parayana, a large-scale chanting movement that has inspired millions globally.
He lauded these efforts as historic contributions to the preservation and spread of India’s spiritual wisdom.
A message of harmony and national spirit
In his reflections, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said, “May the message of the Gita guide our actions, strengthen our society, and elevate our national spirit.” He emphasised that such spiritual gatherings foster unity, inspire moral conduct, and rejuvenate the collective consciousness of the nation.
His visit drew attention from devotees, local residents, and spiritual seekers, many of whom appreciated his engagement with Udupi’s rich cultural and spiritual legacy.
Conclusion
Pawan Kalyan’s pilgrimage to Udupi Sri Krishna Matha and his participation in the Bruhat Geetotsava reaffirm the actor-politician’s deep spiritual inclinations and his appreciation for India’s ancient wisdom traditions. As Udupi continues to lead significant spiritual movements under the guidance of Sri Sugunendra Teertha Swamiji, the visit further amplifies the region’s cultural prominence and its role in sustaining India’s spiritual heritage.
