In observance of World Glaucoma Week, Prasad Netralaya, Udupi, organized a free eye screening camp to raise awareness about glaucoma and other eye-related diseases. The camp, held from March 9 to 15, was part of a global initiative focused on promoting eye health and preventing vision loss.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Latha Nayak, the district health and family welfare officer of Udupi, who lit the lamp to mark the official start of the camp. In her address, Dr. Nayak emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment of eye diseases such as glaucoma and retinal conditions, which can cause irreversible vision loss if left untreated. She highlighted the growing concern over vision problems among children and adolescents and stressed the need for raising awareness about proper eye care.

Dr. Krishna Prasad Koodlu, the medical director of Prasad Netralaya, Udupi, spoke about how, in the past, people from Udupi had to travel to cities like Bengaluru for specialized eye care. Now, with the advanced facilities at Prasad Netralaya, patients can receive comprehensive treatments locally. He urged the community to seek prompt medical attention for any eye-related concerns.

The hospital administrator, M.V. Acharya, welcomed the participants and shared details about the camp’s offerings. Dr. Paresh Poojary, head of the Glaucoma Department at Prasad Netralaya, took charge of conducting the screening camp.
