A cheating case has been filed at the Udupi CEN station after a Manipur-based individual allegedly swindled ₹19.5 lakh from a charitable trust by falsely promising large-scale student admissions to its paramedical colleges.

Rashmi, affiliated with Nethrajyothi Charitable Trust and Prasad Nethralaya, lodged the complaint. The trust has been running Nethrajyothi College of Paramedical Sciences and Nethrajyothi Institute of Allied Health Sciences since 2016. To attract students for the current academic year, the trust had actively advertised admissions.

The accused, Kesham Vikram Singh from Manipur, approached Rashmi through WhatsApp, claiming he could facilitate the admission of 268 students from his state. He insisted that travel expenses by train and air must be covered by the institution.

Believing his assurance, the trust transferred ₹19.5 lakh between September 19 and January 24 to facilitate transportation costs. However, no students were ever brought to the institution, and Singh subsequently became unresponsive.

Authorities have registered a case under Section 66(C) of the IT Act and Section 318(4) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita), related to impersonation and cheating using electronic communication.

An investigation is now underway to trace the accused and recover the defrauded funds.
