Students from Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM) achieved a remarkable third place in the prestigious IEEE Eu-Reka 2024 competition, organized by the IEEE Pune section. The competition, which promotes inclusive and equitable education, also fosters lifelong learning opportunities.
Representing SMVITM were Pratham L Kamath from the AIDS department, Nandish P B from the AIML department, and Nishitha B Rao and Keerthana S Hebbar from the CSE department. The team presented on the theme, Technologies for Environment, Climate Change, Sustainability, and Natural Disasters, with a focus on educating students about critical environmental issues and sustainable technologies.
As part of their preparation, the team visited four schools—two rural and two urban—where they conducted interactive sessions with students. These sessions included videos, images, PowerPoint presentations, and case studies to engage students actively in the topic. The schools visited were St. Lawrence Pre-University Kannada Medium High School, Adi Udupi High School, Mahadevi High School, and GPUC Palli.
Competing against over 100 teams, the SMVITM team made it to the final 15, where they delivered their impactful presentation at the grand finale held on December 15 at Hotel Ramee Grand, Pune. Their outstanding performance earned them third place.
This achievement highlights SMVITM’s commitment to academic excellence, social engagement, and innovation, inspiring students to tackle global challenges through education and collaboration.
