Udupi district was hit by a sudden bout of gusty winds and heavy rain, disrupting daily life and leaving a trail of destruction across several areas. Strong winds swept through Karkala, Manipal, Hiriyadka, Brahmavar, and Udupi town, triggering panic among residents. Dust clouds reduced visibility and brought traffic to a halt, while roofing sheets were seen flying through the streets.
Shortly after the winds hit, heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed the region. Power outages were reported in areas where the storm’s intensity was highest.
In a tragic incident near Koppala (Indira Serigarthi), a house was severely damaged as cement sheets, electric poles, and wiring were ripped apart. The estimated loss stands at ₹3 lakh.
In Moodubettu, a massive tree collapse damaged three houses. In Kadiyali, a peepal tree fell on a house, injuring a couple—Raghavendra Bhat and his wife Neeraja. Their home was completely destroyed.
Local leaders, including MLA Yashpal Suvarna and Congress leader Prasad Raj Kanchan, visited affected families and instructed officials to ensure maximum compensation and temporary relief arrangements.
Across Udupi city, flex hoardings and banners were uprooted by the high winds. In Manipal and the city bus stand, poles and signage structures collapsed, adding to the chaos.
