Thick smoke blankets Udupi after accidental fire near Moodunidamburu

UDUPI: A sudden blaze erupted in a field near Moodunidamburu Garadi on Saturday evening, engulfing parts of Udupi city in dense smoke.

Fortunately, the area was bordered by an underground drainage network, preventing the fire from spreading further and containing it within the field.

Fire and emergency service teams responded swiftly, managing to control the flames before they could cause more damage. However, despite their efforts, the thick smoke hung over the city till late at night.

Due to the presence of overhead power lines at the site, authorities temporarily suspended electricity supply as a safety measure.

In a separate incident, a heap of garbage near MIT in Manipal also caught fire. Firefighters promptly doused the flames, preventing any escalation.
