Traffic has resumed on the Shiradi Ghat stretch following a significant disruption caused by landslides in the Marnalli Doddatappulu area of Sakleshpur. The incessant rains over the past few days triggered massive landslides, blocking the highway and halting vehicle movement.
The landslides occurred due to the instability caused by recent road widening projects, which involved cutting into the hills. The heavy rainfall exacerbated the situation, leading to multiple landslides along the affected stretch. Fortunately, by Sunday, efforts to clear the debris and restore access allowed vehicles to once again navigate the route.
Despite the resumption of traffic, government buses continue to use alternative routes to ensure safety and avoid the affected areas. As a result, the direct road route between Mangaluru and Bengaluru remains closed for the time being. This closure has impacted travel plans, causing delays and requiring travelers to seek alternative routes.
The authorities have been working diligently to address the landslide damage and prevent further disruptions. The situation highlights the challenges of maintaining road infrastructure in areas prone to natural calamities and underscores the need for ongoing vigilance and preparedness in such regions.
The resumption of traffic on Shiradi Ghat brings some relief to travelers, though the road conditions and alternate route options will remain under close scrutiny until full normalcy is restored.
