A 14-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a speeding car while crossing NH 66 in Brahmavara, Udupi district, on Tuesday morning.
The victim, Vamsh Shetty, a Class 6 student at SMS School, was on his way to a summer camp when the incident occurred around 8:30 AM. The car, allegedly over-speeding from the Kundapur side, was driven by Akhilesh (21) from Kalaburagi. Brahmavara police have arrested the driver and registered a case.
Shetty was rushed to a private hospital but succumbed to his injuries. His grieving parents, originally from Vakvady, reside in Brahmavara.
The accident site is a known blackspot with frequent mishaps. Locals and leaders gathered at the hospital, reiterating demands for a flyover, citing poor infrastructure and lack of service roads. Despite repeated pleas, the National Highways Authority of India has yet to address the issue.
