Two individuals, including a 77-year-old cyclist, lost their lives in separate road accidents in Udupi district on Tuesday.

In the first incident under the jurisdiction of the Shankaranarayana police station, Koraga, a senior resident of Kauradi village in Kundapur, was fatally injured while returning home from his son’s house in Nellikatte. As he rode his bicycle towards Amparu, a speeding motorcycle, allegedly ridden recklessly by Pavan, collided with him head-on. Both men were thrown onto the road upon impact. Locals rushed to provide immediate assistance, with Koraga sustaining severe injuries and Pavan escaping with minor wounds.

Koraga was first taken to a private hospital in Kundapur, but due to the seriousness of his injuries, he was referred to a hospital in Manipal for further treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. A case has been registered for further investigation.

In another accident reported at Karkala, Ramesh, a scooter rider, died after colliding with a motorcycle on the Karkala-Padubidri State Highway near Berandottu Cross in Nitte village. According to police, Shreyan was riding his motorcycle from Nitte to Karkala when Ramesh, approaching from the opposite direction, allegedly hit him while riding at high speed. Both sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital in Karkala. Ramesh, who suffered critical head trauma, was declared brought dead.

Separate cases have been filed at Shankaranarayana and Karkala Rural police stations.
