Udupi– In a proud moment for Udupi and a milestone for women empowerment, Amulya and Nikita, students of the Government Pre-University College, Kukkuje, have been selected to represent India at an international science conference in Japan from June 15 to 21.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidyakumari, while felicitating the duo at her Rajathadri, Manipal office, lauded their achievement as a shining example of gender equality and educational excellence in government schools.
The students secured national recognition through the INSPIRE Awards, an initiative by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. Their innovations, the Flood Detector Pole and the Ropo Meter, developed under the mentorship of national award-winning teacher Suresh Markala, were selected as national winners.
This extraordinary feat makes Kukkuje High School the first in India to send two girls from the same class to an international science event. They are among 54 students from across the country chosen to represent India at the conference.
Present at the felicitation ceremony were Dr Ashok Kamath, Deputy Director of the Department of School Education; Nagaraj K, Subject Inspector; Suresh Markala, and the proud parents of the students.
Dr Vidyakumari praised their hard work, saying, “This achievement reflects the potential of rural education when guided with passion and dedication.”
