Udupi: Two tragic road accidents claimed the lives of pedestrians in separate incidents reported in the district.

The first accident occurred under the Padubidri police station limits on Sunday evening near Rajasthan Dhaba in Hejamadi village, Kaup taluk. A pedestrian, estimated to be between 40 and 45 years old, was fatally struck by a tanker truck allegedly being driven recklessly from Udupi towards Mangaluru. The vehicle veered sharply to the left and hit the man, who was standing at the roadside. The driver fled the scene without stopping. The victim, suffering from severe head injuries, was taken to Wenlock District Hospital in Mangaluru, where he passed away on Monday.

In another incident reported by the Udupi Traffic Police, Murari Puthige lost his life after being hit by a speeding vehicle in Shivalli village. As per a complaint filed by Praveen Kumar, Murari was walking from Sharada Kalyana Mantapa towards Beedinagudde around 7 PM on Sunday when he was struck near Sudheendra Tirtha Road Cross. He was rushed to the Udupi District Government Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival due to a major head injury.

Police have registered cases in both incidents and investigations are underway.
