Brahmavar: A custodial death of 45-year-old Biju from Kollam at Brahmavar police station has led to the suspension of two police personnel, including Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Madhu. The incident occurred following Biju’s arrest on November 9 under various sections related to harassment based on a complaint filed by a woman and her brother. The arrest was made despite failing to fully comply with Supreme Court guidelines on the proper procedures for arresting suspects.
Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K stated that PSI Madhu and Head constable Sujatha were responsible for the lapses. A post-mortem of Biju’s body was conducted at KMC hospital in Manipal, after which the body was handed over to his relatives for transport back to Kerala. A complaint has been filed under Section 194(3)(iv) BNSS, and a team from the CID, led by the Superintendent of Police, has arrived from Bengaluru to continue the investigation.
The National Human Rights Commission has issued directives, and a panchanama was conducted by the Judge, ACJ & JMFC of Udupi in connection with the case.
