Mangaluru: A potential disaster was avoided on the Konkan Railway network on Sunday thanks to the vigilance of a track maintainer. Pradeep Shetty, during his night patrol at 2:25 am, identified a weld failure on the rails between Innanje and Padubidri in Udupi district. He promptly informed his superiors, preventing a possible train accident.
Two trains were potentially impacted by this issue: Train No. 16345 (Mumbai LTT – Thiruvananthapuram Central Netravathi Express) scheduled to leave Udupi towards Mangaluru Junction at 3 am, and Train No. 16595 (KSR Bengaluru – Karwar Panchaganga Express) departing Mangaluru Junction for the same stretch around 4 am.
Officials swiftly took action to repair the damaged section of the track at km 706/02-04.
