Udupi: Bus carrying ‘Kantara’ dancers overturns; several injured

Udupi: A bus carrying more than 20 junior artistes from the film ‘Kantara’ overturned near Anejari, close to Kollur, on Sunday night, leaving several injured. The artistes, primarily dancers, were returning to their hostel in Kollur after shooting in Mudur.

Details of the accident

The incident occurred when the driver of the 407 bus swerved to avoid a bike, causing the vehicle to overturn. The injured artistes were given first aid at Jadkal Mahalakshmi Clinic before being shifted to a hospital in Kundapur for further treatment.

Driver accused of negligence

Angered by the mishap, the artistes alleged that the driver’s use of a mobile phone contributed to the accident. The situation escalated as some artistes confronted and reportedly assaulted the driver.

Tensions at the scene

Members of the tourist drivers’ association rushed to the spot following the altercation, staging a protest in solidarity with the accused driver. This briefly led to tension at the accident site.

Current status

The injured artistes are reportedly recovering, and an investigation into the accident is underway. Authorities are expected to address the allegations of negligence and the subsequent altercation.
