Udupi: The Udupi district came alive with the festive spirit of Christmas as Christians celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ with joy and devotion. Families and communities gathered to mark this cherished occasion, embodying love, faith, and unity.

As dusk fell, congregants filled churches across the district for evening services filled with heartfelt prayers and reflections. The highlight was the Mass at Milagres Cathedral, Kallianpur, presided over by Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi Diocese. In his Christmas message, Bishop Lobo emphasized peace and hope, urging the faithful to spread compassion and foster unity. “Christmas is a reminder of God’s infinite love, calling us to illuminate our lives with kindness and harmony,” he shared.

Vibrant decorations adorned churches, featuring twinkling lights, festive stars, and nativity crib scenes that captured the humble birth of Jesus. Youth groups added to the celebrations with cultural programs, including songs, dances, and skits, while Santa Claus delighted attendees by distributing treats.

Prominent churches like St. Lawrence Basilica in Attur and Mother of Sorrows Church in Udupi held special Masses, uniting the faithful in prayer and gratitude. The festive mood was a testament to the enduring values of love, hope, and togetherness.

This year’s celebrations reaffirmed the spirit of Christmas, as the people of Udupi came together to honor the birth of Christ and spread the message of goodwill and peace.
