Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), recently launched the first vessel in a series of six 3800 TDW General Cargo Vessels being built for M/s Wilson ASA, Norway. This significant event reflects CSL’s commitment to the ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’ initiative and supports the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World’ programs of the Government of India.
Wilson ASA, a leading short-sea fleet operator based in Bergen, Norway, specializes in transporting dry cargo across Europe with a fleet of approximately 130 vessels. The vessels being built at UCSL, designed by Conoship International of the Netherlands, are eco-friendly, diesel-electric cargo ships intended for use in European coastal waters.
Madhu Nair, Chairman and Managing Director of CSL, highlighted UCSL’s growing presence in the international shipbuilding market and emphasized the yard’s commitment to delivering high-quality vessels. The strong relationship with Wilson ASA, evidenced by repeat orders, underscores UCSL’s reliability and excellence in shipbuilding.
Since its acquisition by CSL, UCSL has delivered two 62T Bollard Pull Tugs to Ocean Sparkle Limited and two 70T Bollard Pull Tugs to Polestar Maritime Limited. UCSL also secured additional orders for four 70T Bollard Pull Tugs.
