Udupi — The 79th Independence Day celebrations took place at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Ajjarakadu, on Friday with District In-charge Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar unfurling the national flag and inspecting the guard of honour.
Addressing students and citizens gathered for the occasion, the Minister acknowledged the role of youth in nation-building and felicitated SSLC and PUC toppers from backward communities for their academic excellence.
The event was attended by Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, Udupi Urban Development Authority Chairperson Dinakar Heroor, District Guarantee Project Implementation Committee President Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa TK, Zilla Panchayat CEO Pratheek Bayal, Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, and Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhid Gadyala, along with several other dignitaries.
The day’s programme reflected both patriotic fervour and recognition of local achievers, underscoring the district’s commitment to progress and inclusivity.
