Udupi – Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T K has issued a strong appeal to Aadhaar holders in the district to promptly link their mobile numbers with their Aadhaar, stressing its legal importance and practical necessity.
Speaking during the district-level Aadhaar Monitoring Committee meeting held at the DC’s office on Thursday, she shared that out of 14,11,209 Aadhaar card holders in Udupi, 13,42,275 have linked their mobile numbers — reflecting a completion rate of 68.93%. She urged the remaining population to act swiftly to avoid service disruptions.
She raised special concern for students aged 15 and above who must provide biometric data — notably fingerprints — at Aadhaar centres. With 41,115 students still pending, she warned that failure to update their details could lead to Aadhaar deactivation, hindering access to academic and competitive exams.
The DC also emphasized Aadhaar enrolment for children attending Anganwadi centres. Of 45,832 listed on the Poshan Tracker, only 33,425 have Aadhaar. Parents of the remaining 11,947 have been requested to ensure immediate registration.
A serious warning was issued about fraudulent Aadhaar cards obtained by individuals from other states and countries using fake documents. Citizens were advised to verify Aadhaar authenticity via QR code scanning. Police have been directed to take strict legal action against such fraudsters.
She also acknowledged ongoing difficulties caused by mismatches in official records, affecting students, elderly residents, and the disabled. Relevant departments have been told to resolve these issues promptly.
