In a heartfelt act of service tied to the upcoming General Jubilee Year 2025, the Udupi Diocese has launched a major housing initiative to support underprivileged families without homes. The first success of the campaign was celebrated on Sunday with the handover of a newly built, fully furnished house to Vinod and Angeline Pinto, members of the Thottam St Anne’s Church.
Burdened by financial hardship and living in rented quarters, the Pinto family’s struggles moved the parish community into action. Spearheaded by the parish council, aided by kind donors, and supported by the Michael D’Souza Charity Trust, the house—named ‘Ark of Hope’—was constructed at a cost of ₹13 lakh. A five-cent plot of land for the home was generously donated by Thomas and Valeriana Noronha, making the dream a reality in just five months.
Rev. Denis D’Sa, parish priest of Thottam Church, blessed and inaugurated the house, stating, “A home is more than bricks and mortar; it is a foundation for stability, security, and belonging.”
Looking ahead, the diocese plans to replicate this initiative across its 52 parishes, aiming to build one house per parish for families in need as part of the Jubilee Year celebrations. The diocese hopes this mission will inspire wider social action toward a more just and compassionate society.
