As part of its 2025 jubilee celebrations, the Udupi Diocese has initiated a charitable project to build 52 houses for needy families, with each of the 52 churches in its jurisdiction contributing to the effort.

A foundation stone-laying ceremony for a new home was held at St Ann’s Church, Thottam, on Wednesday. The event was led by Bishop Rev Dr Francis Serrao of the Shivamogga Diocese, who commended the initiative as an act of selfless giving.

Parish priest Rev Denis D’Sa emphasized the importance of homeownership for a peaceful life. He contributed Rs 1 lakh for the project and Rs 50,000 to Kota Church, fulfilling a promise made during his 60th birthday. Thomas and Valeriana Noronha donated five cents of land for the initiative and were honored by the bishop.
