Udupi Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari K has emphasized the importance of carrying out the Scheduled Caste (SC) internal reservation survey with precision and scientific rigor to ensure comprehensive coverage of all SC households. Addressing taluk-level master trainers at a workshop held in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall, she said the effort would promote social justice and economic equity.

The training session was part of a joint initiative by the District Administration and Udupi Zilla Panchayat for the three-phase caste survey, launched under the direction of the Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das Commission. The data will be gathered using a mobile app, ensuring transparency and speed.

Teachers from primary and high schools have been chosen as master trainers, who will guide enumerators through the process. Each of the five assembly constituencies in the district will require around 200–250 enumerators, and in total, 1,112 teachers are being trained for deployment. Each supervisor will oversee 10–12 enumerators.

The first phase (May 5–17) involves door-to-door visits. The second phase (May 19–21) will host special camps for those missed earlier. The third phase enables self-declaration via an online portal. The survey will cover 101 SC sub-castes, capturing 42 fields of data per family, focusing on their social, educational, and economic status.

The DC urged SC communities to cooperate fully. The survey will use voter lists to identify households. Officials including Assistant Commissioner Rashmi S and Deputy Director Narayana Swamy were present at the event.
