Udupi — Once built at a cost of ₹40 crore, the Udupi KSRTC bus stand now greets passengers with broken infrastructure, filth, and poor amenities. Despite Udupi’s reputation as a cultural, educational, and tourist hub, its main bus terminal has become a picture of neglect.

Travellers are met with betel stains, gutka spit, litter, leaking roofs, and dusty canopies. Damaged shelters make waiting uncomfortable, while basic facilities like drinking water and restrooms remain either unusable or unhygienic. Garbage, including liquor bottles and cigarette packs, lies scattered due to poor waste management, creating health hazards.

Social worker Ganeshraj Saralabettu criticised the lack of maintenance, urging authorities to fix leaking roofs, improve lighting, ensure clean toilets, and provide safe drinking water. With hundreds of passengers using the terminal daily, locals say urgent repairs and regular upkeep are essential to restore the facility’s dignity.
