Udupi: Balakrishna Shetty, aged 72, a well-respected newspaper distributor and celebrated Bhajana artist from Nujinabailu, Pethri, tragically passed away in a road accident on the Kunjalu National Highway on the morning of February 3 while engaged in his daily work. His sudden demise has left the community in deep sorrow.

Known for his modest, courteous, and approachable nature, Shetty was held in high esteem in the Bhajana community. His gentle demeanor and sincere passion for devotional music endeared him to many, making him a cherished figure among peers and devotees alike.

Throughout his illustrious career, he served as the former president of the Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Bhajana Parishad in Udupi Taluk and also held the position of honorary president of the Brahmavar Taluk Bhajana Parishad. His leadership and dedication greatly contributed to the promotion and preservation of Bhajana traditions in the region.

In addition, he was an active senior member of the Kannar-Pethri Sri Durgaparameshwari Bhajana Mandali and was honored with the prestigious Udupi Taluk ‘Bhajana Sadhak Award’ by Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala for his invaluable contributions to the art form. His commitment to Bhajana not only enriched cultural life but also inspired countless enthusiasts.

Balakrishna Shetty leaves behind his wife, four sons, extended family, and a vast community of admirers and devotees who will forever cherish his legacy. The Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Bhajana Parishad, Udupi Taluk, has expressed profound grief, remembering him as a pillar of the Bhajana community and a devoted servant of his art.
