Udupi: On Tuesday, the Udupi town police successfully apprehended three individuals involved in an attempted murder case where swords were brandished against a rival group in Puttur, Udupi, on June 15.
The arrested individuals are Praveen (22) from Badagubettu, Abhishek (28) from Katpadi, and Deshraj (18) from Puttur. According to Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K, the incident stemmed from an old rivalry between the parties involved.
During the altercation, the accused allegedly brandished swords at Charanraj and his friends, attempting to murder them. Additionally, they reportedly hurled beer bottles at the victims, who abandoned their motorcycles and another two-wheeler out of fear for their lives. Both vehicles sustained damage in the altercation.
The Udupi police have registered a case under IPC sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 427 (mischief causing damage), 307 (attempt to murder), 149 (unlawful assembly with common intent), and section 27 of the Arms Act.
A minor involved in the incident will face legal action as per juvenile law procedures, according to SP Dr. Arun K.
