Udupi: The Udupi Traffic Police have intensified their road safety enforcement by penalising private buses operating without mandatory folding doors, following repeated directions from the district administration to improve passenger safety.
The action comes as authorities continue to crack down on violations aimed at reducing accidents and ensuring compliance with transport safety regulations.
Buses penalised for violating safety norms
Traffic police conducted inspections across the district and issued fines to bus operators found running vehicles without the required safety doors. Officials said the enforcement drive is part of a broader initiative to ensure that all private buses comply with road safety regulations.
The district administration had earlier directed operators to install folding-type doors on buses, warning that failure to comply would attract penalties and could also affect the renewal of vehicle fitness certificates.
Safety remains the priority
Authorities said buses without doors pose a serious risk to passengers, particularly during sudden braking, overcrowding and accidents. The installation of doors is intended to prevent passengers from falling out of moving vehicles and improve overall commuter safety.
Officials have reiterated that enforcement will continue until all buses comply with the prescribed safety standards.
More inspections planned
The Udupi Police and Regional Transport Office (RTO) have indicated that surprise inspections will continue across the district. Bus operators have been urged to comply with the safety directives to avoid penalties and ensure the safety of passengers.
Authorities have also appealed to the public and transport operators to cooperate with the enforcement drive, emphasising that the measures are aimed at making public transport safer for everyone.
