Udupi: District Superintendent of Police Dr. K. Arun has taken stringent action against nine police personnel from Byndoor, Gangolli, and Kollur police stations, suspending them for failing to perform their duties effectively in relation to illegal red stone mining.

The officers were suspended due to their inability to detect and report unauthorized mining activities occurring under their watch. According to Dr. Arun, although the investigation has not established any direct link between the suspended officers and the mining operations, their lack of vigilance and failure to uphold responsibility led to disciplinary measures.

A separate departmental investigation has also been launched against the sub-inspectors heading the three stations. The SP assured that appropriate steps would follow based on the results of the internal inquiry.

This decisive action reflects the department’s zero-tolerance approach toward negligence and underscores the importance of proactive policing, especially in cases involving environmental and land misuse.
