
Udupi Soldier Lance Havaldar Anoop Poojary Cremated with Full Military Honours
Udupi: Lance Havaldar Anoop Poojary (33), who tragically lost his life in an army vehicle accident in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, was cremated with full state and military honours in his hometown of Beejady, Udupi district, on Thursday.
Anoop, a member of the 11 Maratha Light Infantry Regiment, died alongside four other soldiers in the accident on Tuesday evening. His remains were brought to Mangaluru International Airport on Thursday morning and then transported to Beejady, where large crowds gathered to pay their respects.
Villagers, schoolchildren, and dignitaries, including Udupi Additional Deputy Commissioner Mamatha Devi G S and Additional SP S T Siddalingappa, offered tributes at key intersections. Anoop’s family, including his mother Chandu Poojarthi and wife Manjushree, were visibly grief-stricken.
Having joined the Indian Army 13 years ago after completing his pre-university education, Anoop was known for his courage and dedication, serving in Jammu and Kashmir and Manipur throughout his career.
