In a pre-emptive move ahead of the Bakrid festival, the district task force in Udupi, under the directive of the Deputy Commissioner, has conducted coordinated operations across various police station jurisdictions, rescuing 32 stray cattle.
These animals were safely relocated to registered and recognised goshalas for proper care. The breakdown includes:
-
15 cattle sent to Gantidham Goshala in Teggarse,
17 to Hebri Goshala,
1 to Hiriyadka Temple Goshala,
2 to Nanchur Goshala, and
2 to Ahimsa Goshala in Mudaru.
The initiative was undertaken to safeguard animal welfare, ensure public order, and address the sensitivities associated with the festival. Officials confirmed the operation aimed to prevent possible law-and-order disturbances, especially in light of heightened vigilance during religious celebrations.
“Ahead of Bakrid, surveillance has been stepped up, and we’ve ensured all rescued animals are placed in registered shelters,” stated a task force member. The emphasis, they noted, is on both legal compliance and community harmony.
This effort is part of a broader administrative strategy to strengthen animal protection protocols and maintain peaceful coexistence during festivals that could otherwise give rise to tension.
