Veteran Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Sunday asserted that nothing could stop Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar from becoming the Chief Minister, calling it a “settled matter.” Moily, who was addressing a Congress event in Karkala, emphasized that Shivakumar’s ascension to the top post was a certainty and simply a matter of time. “I played a role in ensuring Shivakumar got his first ticket to contest as an MLA. Today, he is one of the most successful leaders in Karnataka,” Moily said, urging party members to support Shivakumar’s elevation to the CM’s position.

The former Chief Minister praised Shivakumar for his dedication, highlighting his leadership as the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President and his contributions to strengthening the party’s presence across the country. Moily reaffirmed, “No one can prevent you from becoming the Chief Minister.” He stressed that while critics may voice their opinions, the CM’s post was something Shivakumar had earned through his hard work and leadership.

Political speculation has swirled regarding a potential rotational Chief Minister agreement within the Congress, with reports suggesting that Shivakumar may take over after a few years. Moily, however, firmly stated, “Shivakumar becoming CM is 100 per cent certain—it’s already decided by the people and history.”

This statement comes amid ongoing discussions and differing opinions within the Congress on leadership transitions. Despite the controversies, Moily’s comments reinforced the belief that Shivakumar’s path to the top post is unavoidable.
