Numerous houses and farms were inundated by heavy rains that lashed the taluk on July 19. A viral photo on social media claimed that the water in a well remained uncontaminated despite the surrounding farm being flooded. However, it has now been revealed that this was fake news.
The open well is located in the arecanut farm of Madhusudhan Poojary, a resident of Posralu Shettybettu Bandasale in Mundkur village. This well gets inundated every year during the monsoon, and this year was no different. However, someone took a photo of the clear well water and shared it on social media, falsely claiming it was in Uppinangady. In reality, the well is located in Karkala Posralu.
Sanket Poojary, who took the photo, clarified, “This phenomenon happens every year. This is not the first time. I had taken a photo of the well on our farmland and shared it with my friends. However, it went viral, and incorrect information is being circulated.”
The incident highlights the need for verifying information before sharing it on social media. The spread of false information can cause confusion and mislead the public.
