Hebri, Udupi: An ambulance carrying the body of Naxal Vikram Gowda, killed in an encounter with the anti-Naxal force, veered off the road and fell into a ditch on Hebrikudlu Road in Udupi district earlier today.

Details of the Incident

The mishap occurred when the ambulance, en route to Kudlu near Hebri after post-mortem procedures at Manipal KMC, swerved to avoid a cow on the road. Losing control, the vehicle slipped into a roadside ditch.

The body of Vikram Gowda had been handed over to his younger brother, Suresh Gowda, and sister, Suguna, earlier in the morning at KMC Hospital, Manipal. Suresh Gowda was present in the ambulance when the incident happened.

No Injuries Reported

District Superintendent of Police Dr. K Arun confirmed that no injuries were reported in the incident, and no significant damage occurred. Locals promptly assisted in retrieving the ambulance from the ditch, enabling it to continue its journey to Kudlu.

This incident followed the handover of Gowda’s body to his family after post-mortem formalities, bringing attention to safety on rural roads during such circumstances.
