Udupi – The Panambur Venkatraya Aital Cultural Foundation will celebrate its 8th annual anniversary with a grand Yakshagana Saptaha and Ashtavadhana series, honouring the rich coastal heritage of Karnataka.

The celebrations will begin on Sunday, June 15, at 2:30 pm at Rajangana, Sri Krishna Math, Udupi. The formal inauguration is scheduled for 5:30 pm, graced by spiritual leaders including Sri Sri Sugunendra Theertha, Sri Sri Sushreendra Theertha, and Sri Sri Sachchidananda Bharathi Swamiji.

Addressing the media, Dr Sunil Mundkur paid tribute to Panambur Venkatraya Aital, describing him as a multifaceted Yakshagana master and cultural icon. In his memory, the Foundation launched free Tenkuthittu Yakshagana training in 2017, guided by Yaksha Guru Rakesh Rai Adka. Today, over 100 students receive training weekly at Sode Math, Udupi, with new Chende and Maddale classes now held on Saturdays.

The inaugural day will also witness felicitations of veteran artists like K Govinda Bhat, Prof M L Samaga, and Polya Lakshminarayana Shetty, followed by a Tamradhwaja Kalaga Yakshagana by senior performers. Daily performances at 7 pm will feature Foundation students.

Highlights include:

  • June 16: Bharatanatyam by Kumari Siddhi Jayadeva Tantri (USA)

  • June 17–20: Various Yakshagana episodes including Karna Parva, Gada Parva, and Sudarshana Garva Bhanga

  • The valedictory event on June 21 will feature the play Girija Kalyana and appearances by cultural stalwarts and dignitaries.
