A 32-year-old woman who had been residing at a special school in Karkala for the past two years died at Wenlock District Hospital in Mangaluru after reportedly suffering from suspected food poisoning.

The deceased has been identified as Mohini. According to a complaint filed by her brother Srinivasa (39), a resident of Ucchangi Nagar in Karkala taluk, Mohini had been staying at a special school in Ayyappanagar for the last two years.

Shifted across hospitals as condition worsened

As per the complaint, around 10 am on February 21, Mohini was suspected to have developed symptoms of food poisoning. She was initially taken to the Primary Health Centre in Nakre for treatment.

Subsequently, she was shifted to Karkala Taluk Hospital for further medical care. However, as her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Wenlock District Hospital in Mangaluru on February 22 for advanced treatment.

Despite efforts by doctors, she died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on Tuesday.

Police register UDR

Based on the complaint lodged by her brother, Karkala Town police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Authorities are expected to await medical reports to determine whether food poisoning was the definitive cause.

The incident has caused distress among family members and those associated with the institution where she had been staying.
