Youth Congress to Launch Statewide Stir Against Soaring Prices
Udupi: The Karnataka State Youth Congress has announced a statewide protest against the central government’s persistent rise in prices of essential commodities. This campaign comes under the guidance of the state Youth Congress president in Bengaluru, with the Udupi district unit pledging complete support.
Ajith Kumar, State Youth Congress General Secretary, in a statement to Daijiworld, slammed the BJP-led central government for what he termed as “relentless exploitation” of common citizens through escalating prices of petrol, diesel, and milk.
“The BJP’s ‘Janakrosh’ protest against the state government is nothing but a political drama,” Kumar said, adding that the price of 8 grams of gold had surged from ₹28,000 under Congress rule to nearly ₹98,000 under BJP’s governance.
He accused the ruling party at the Centre of increasing taxes and prices, thereby deepening the financial burden on ordinary citizens. He announced that Karnataka Deputy CM D K Shivakumar would lead a massive rally titled ‘Janakrosha’ in Bengaluru on April 17, expected to draw over 40,000 participants.
Kumar emphasized that BJP lost its power due to its failure in governance and urged the party to focus on development rather than stirring communal tensions. “Instead of shifting the blame to the state, they must answer for inflation,” he added.
Udupi’s Youth Congress recently held a protest at Brahmagiri, with plans to extend demonstrations to all blocks in the district.
