The Karnataka High Court on Friday, April 4, heard a habeas corpus plea filed by the parents of Zeena Meril from Udupi, who had earlier been reported missing amid allegations of kidnapping.
During the proceedings, Zeena and Akram appeared via their legal counsel. Zeena firmly stated that she had not been abducted and had voluntarily chosen to leave with Akram.
When her mother requested a conversation, the court arranged a private meeting between them in the judge’s chamber. After their talk, Zeena’s mother appealed to the court to let her daughter return home. However, Zeena declined, revealing her intention to marry Akram through a registered marriage on April 19, 2025.
She reassured the bench that her relationship with her mother remained cordial and promised to meet her after the marriage.
The court has fixed April 22 for the next hearing and has instructed all involved parties to be present.
