The Kozhikode police have registered a case against Abdul Manaf, the owner of the truck involved in the Ankola landslide tragedy, following a complaint by the family of Arjun, a victim of the disaster. Arjun’s sister, Anju, accused Manaf of exploiting the family’s grief for personal gain, including using Arjun’s image and raising funds without the family’s consent. The FIR includes charges of attempting to create societal divisions and emotional exploitation.
Manaf responded to the media, expressing regret for any unintentional harm caused, stating, “I stand by the family, even if they’ve filed a case against me.” He also apologized for using Arjun’s image on his YouTube channel, clarifying that the platform was meant to provide updates on the search and has not been used since Arjun’s body was recovered. Manaf further clarified that the truck involved in the landslide belonged to his brother, Mubeen.
Arjun, a native of Kannadikkal in Kozhikode, went missing on July 16 following a landslide while transporting wood to Kerala. His body was found after a 72-day search in the Gangavali River.
