Muthu Selvan, a 26-year-old MBA graduate from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, has been cycling across India for 1,009 days, covering 19 states, with a unique mission. He arrived in Karwar on Tuesday, riding his 122 kg bicycle, adorned with a national flag and a portrait of the late Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar.
Selvan’s journey, which began on December 21, 2021, aims to set a world record by cycling for 1,111 days and planting five lakh saplings. So far, he has planted 4,55,300 saplings. “I’m a huge fan of Puneeth, and this cycle tour is in his memory,” he shared.
Selvan’s remarkable journey is not just about setting records but also about spreading environmental awareness. He carries cooking utensils, clothes, and essentials on his bicycle and relies on local forest departments and organisations for support. At night, he finds shelter in petrol station premises and cooks his own meals.
As he pedals through the country, Selvan’s determination inspires others to join the environmental cause. His next stop will continue his quest to create a greener India, one sapling at a time.
