Dredger Arrives for Landslide Search Mission in Gangavali River
Nearly two months after Arjun from Kozhikode and two others went missing due to a landslide in Ankola, Karnataka, a dredger arrived in Karwar on Wednesday to aid in the search operation. The dredger, transported from Goa by tugboats, will be deployed in the Gangavali River after officials assess conditions.
The search is expected to resume Thursday morning, following a high-level review meeting at the district collectorate. The Karwar-based agency overseeing the operation quoted Rs 96 lakhs, with the district disaster management authority providing Rs 50 lakhs and the Karnataka government covering the remainder.
Adverse weather and strong river currents had previously stalled the search efforts. Arjun disappeared on July 16 after a landslide buried the truck he was traveling in on National Highway 66. Despite using advanced equipment, no signs of human presence have been found so far.
