Tragedy struck on Gunvante NH in Honnavar taluk, located approximately 25 km from Bhatkal, as one person lost his life and another sustained injuries in a motorcycle accident on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased, identified as Abubakar Kampa (49) from Nakhuda Mohalla in Manki, tragically succumbed to his injuries. The injured pillion rider, identified as Hayat from Tonka near Honnavar, was rushed to Honnavar Hospital for treatment.
Reports indicate that both individuals worked as weavers of fishing nets in Tonka and were returning to work after attending a relative’s wedding ceremony in Nakhuda Mohalla, Manki.
The accident occurred when their bike skidded suddenly on the National Highway at Gunvante, causing them to fall and sustain severe injuries. Despite efforts to save Abubakar, he tragically passed away around 7 PM before reaching Udupi, where he was being transferred for further treatment. Hayat, meanwhile, is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Udupi, with his condition reported as stable.
Abubakar’s body has been moved to Honnavar Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
It’s important to note that light showers persisted throughout the morning and afternoon in coastal Karnataka, including Bhatkal. In such conditions, caution, especially for riders on two-wheelers, is paramount as roads become increasingly slippery during the initial rainfall.
