Heavy Vehicle Restriction on Sirsi-Kumta Road

Gangubai Mankar

Karwar: The district administration has issued an order to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles from October 15 to facilitate the remaining road development and bridge reconstruction work under the Bharatmala Project by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Sirsi-Kumta Road, according to a report.

Deputy Commissioner Gangubai Mankar issued this order, as development work needs to be carried out over a distance of 27.15 km to 60 km. In light of this, heavy vehicles have been directed to use alternative routes to travel from the coast to Sirsi.

Alternative Routes Light vehicles traveling from Kumta to Sirsi can use National Highway 766E. Heavy vehicles can reach Sirsi via State Highway 69 through Siddapur, and from the Ankola side, they can use National Highway 63 and State Highway 93 via the Yellapur route.

Vehicles from Mangalore and Honnavar can travel to Sirsi via the Mavingundi-Siddapur route, as stated in the order.

It’s worth noting that although there was a request for traffic restrictions in 2020, vehicle movement continued due to public demand. As a result, the work could not be completed within the scheduled time. Highway Authority officials had requested the DC for traffic restrictions from October 15, 2024, to February 25, 2025.
