Indira Canteens in North Karnataka, including Hubballi-Dharwad and Belagavi districts, are set to diversify their menu with traditional local dishes. Officials are preparing to introduce a variety of regional foods pending final approval from Bengaluru authorities.

Currently, Hubballi-Dharwad boasts nine operational Indira Canteens, with plans to launch an additional seven across the district. The menu will feature staples like jowar roti, mandakki (puffed rice), bajji, avalakki (poha), ragi malt, and kheer, tailored specifically for districts under the Belagavi and Kalaburagi divisions.

Jowar roti will be served four days a week—Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday—accompanied by palya. The revised pricing includes Rs 5 for breakfast, and Rs 10 for both lunch and dinner, aiming to provide affordable meals to the public.

BS Ramesh, project director of the district urban development cell (DUDC) in Dharwad, confirmed that tender processes are complete, awaiting government approval to launch the new menu at existing and upcoming Indira Canteens.
