The discovery of a severely decomposed body in the forest near Dongarpalli, Bhatkal, has left many puzzled. Found just 100 meters from a busy rickshaw stand and close to shops, houses, and the bustling Bunder Road, the body had reportedly been hanging from a tree for over a month, yet no one noticed any foul odor.

The shocking find was made by a shepherd from Maqdoom Colony on Tuesday evening, who spotted a hanging rope and a human skull beneath it. Nearby, the remains of a shirt, half pants, and a slipper suggested the body belonged to a man. Police retrieved the bones, clothing, and two packets of gutka found in the deceased’s pockets, sending them for further examination at the Bhatkal Government Hospital. Samples are being preserved for a possible DNA test, with the remains stored in a freezer.

Police suspect the man may have been a laborer from northern India, given the prevalence of migrant workers in Bhatkal. Strangely, no missing persons have been reported, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Bhatkal Town Police Station.
