
Scooter and Engine Parts Found in Search for Landslide Victim in Karwar
Karwar: In a tragic incident near Shirur, close to Ankola in Uttara Kannada district, the search for Lakshmana Naika, who lost his life in a landslide, yielded significant discoveries on Sunday. His scooter was located in the River Gangavli during the ongoing search operation.
Recovery Efforts
The search team also uncovered an engine part from a gas tanker that went missing in the landslide incident. These discoveries were made during soil removal operations, which utilised a dredging barge to facilitate the process. Diver Ishwar Malpe played a crucial role in locating Naika’s scooter, which was subsequently lifted from the river with the assistance of a crane.
In addition to the scooter and engine parts, a few other items, including a vessel and a wooden log, were found in the riverbed.
Ongoing Operations
This marked the third consecutive day of search operations, with teams tirelessly working to remove soil and boulders in hopes of uncovering more information regarding the landslide and the victims involved. The community remains hopeful as the recovery efforts continue.
The tragic events have drawn attention to the hazards posed by landslides in the region, prompting discussions on the need for enhanced safety measures and community preparedness.
