A distressing incident unfolded on Sunday near Mudangi of Tadadi village in Kumta taluk of Uttara Kannada district as a boat carrying 40 tourists capsized in the water. Prompt action by the Coast Guard, aided by local residents, averted a potential tragedy as all passengers were successfully rescued.
The ill-fated tourist boat, owned by Ganesh and Ramesh of Mudangi, was operated without permission from the Tourism Department. With a capacity for 28 passengers, the vessel was overloaded, leading to its sinking off the coast. However, due to the proactive measure of equipping all tourists with life jackets, they were spared from any life-threatening situation.
While the incident underscores the importance of adhering to safety regulations and obtaining proper authorization for operating tourist boats, the swift response of the Coast Guard and locals ensured the safety of all individuals involved.
