In Uttara Kannada, a dramatic rescue unfolded early Wednesday morning when a bridge on the Kali River near Kodibhaga, Karwar, collapsed. The incident occurred around 12:50 AM, causing the bridge to fracture and fall into the river. As the bridge gave way, a truck traveling from Goa to Karwar plunged into the water.
The truck driver, Radhakrishna Nala Swamy (37), from Kerala, was initially submerged but managed to climb into the truck cabin for safety. Local fishermen and police quickly mobilized, using boats to rescue Swamy and transport him to KRIMS Hospital. The truck was fully submerged, with only the cabin visible above the water.
Uttara Kannada District Superintendent of Police Narayan, ASP Jayakumar, DSP Girish, District Collector Lakshmeepriya, and MLA Satish Sail were on the scene to assess the damage and coordinate the response. The collapse follows a recent similar incident, where a hill in Shiruru, Ankola, slid due to poor road work.
