Two residents of Bhatkal, Karnataka, passed away in Dubai on Saturday in separate incidents. One of the deceased, Mohammed Hussain Khateeb, was buried on Sunday after the necessary paperwork was completed, while the other, Mohammed Qutub Damudi, is awaiting repatriation as his documentation process is still ongoing.
The first incident involved 75-year-old Mohammed Hussain Khateeb, the uncle of the well-known Islamic scholar Maulana Ansar Khateeb Madani. Mohammed Hussain had traveled to Dubai on a visiting visa just four days earlier with his wife and younger daughter to meet his three sons who live there. He collapsed while offering the Maghrib prayer at his son’s residence in Al Nahda, Dubai, reportedly due to a heart attack. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, he passed away two hours later. His son, Fairoz Khateeb, shared that his father had attended the Asr prayer at a nearby mosque earlier in the day but opted to pray Maghrib at home due to back pain.
The second incident involved 36-year-old Mohammed Qutub Damudi, a resident of Bhatkal Bunder Road, who had been living in Dubai for about ten years. On Saturday night, he went for a walk after dinner but did not return to his flat in Bur Dubai. Concerned relatives contacted the police, who later informed them that Qutub had collapsed and died while walking. An investigation into the cause of his death is currently underway. According to Jailani Mohtisham, General Secretary of Bhatkal Jamaat, Qutub had planned to return to Bhatkal with a confirmed ticket for September 4. His body is currently at the Al Qiyada Police Headquarters mortuary, and efforts are being made to repatriate it once the necessary paperwork is completed.
Maulana Irshad Africa Nadvi, an executive member of Bhatkal Jamaat, stated that the body of Mohammed Hussain Khateeb was handed over to his family on Sunday evening. His funeral prayer was held at Al Qusais (Sonapur) Mosque shortly after the Maghrib prayer, and he was buried in the adjacent graveyard. The funeral was attended by hundreds of Bhatkali residents living in Dubai.
