In Bijapur, where polling took place in Phase 3 on 7th May, the key contenders were Ramesh Jigajinagi from BJP and Raju Alagur from Congress. According to the latest trends, BJP’s Ramesh Jigajinagi secures victory in Bijapur.

This victory echoes the previous electoral trends. In the 2019 elections, BJP’s Jigajinagi Ramesh Chandappa clinched the seat, while in 2014, he emerged victorious as well. The assembly seats under Bijapur parliamentary constituency include Muddebihal, Devar Hippargi, Basavana Bagevadi, Babaleshwar, Bijapur City, Nagthan, Indi, and Sindgi.

In the broader context of Karnataka’s Lok Sabha elections, which took place in phases two and three, Karnataka’s ruling party Congress contested alone in all 28 seats. NDA allies BJP and JD(S) made a seat-sharing agreement, with BJP contesting in 25 seats and JD(S) in three.

Karnataka, a significant stronghold for BJP in the South, has historically witnessed intense electoral battles. In the 2019 elections, BJP secured a massive mandate by winning 25 seats, while Congress, JD(S), and an independent candidate managed to secure only one seat each. In the 2014 elections, BJP won seventeen seats, Congress secured nine, and JD(S) won two seats.
